Musing Mondays (October 17)

Do you judge a book by its cover?
Didn't you just hate it when your mom would say that to you in middle school about the kid who sat behind you history class with the old sketchers and annoying voice? Well, I did. Funny thing is, mommy dearest was usually right.
Same thing with books. I've gotten better through the years with giving a book a chance. I don't care so much about how "pretty" it looks, but if the cover is cheesier than Aunt Donna's potato casserole, it takes a LOT of will power for me to pick it up and read the back cover.

Have to admit though, some of the best books I've ever read were some real stinkers. And some of the absolute WORST books I have read had covers as pretty as Fleur Delacour.

Still, I've learned to give a book the benefit of the doubt. And recommendations from friends and authors help too.

you go in a bookstore and there are so many books. Something, a cover, a title, attracts us and it is meant to. "Judge" may be too strong a word but it plays a role in out first attraction to a book and is suppose to, isn't it?

The cover of a book is like an advert for the contents...

Here's my Musing Monday post. :)

I’ll read the blurb before making a decision. A colorful cover might catch my eye but a horrible cover won’t make me avoid a book either. Unless it had a woman and man making kissy faces at each other on it. Then I might run the other way.

As a painter, I am very attracted, visually, by book covers. Many times that is what grabs my attention, and I read the back cover, or inside front cover to see if I would like the book. As someone else said, a pretty cover doesn't necessarily mean it will be a good book.

I'm not going to lie, I always judge books by their cover :P I know it's not fair to all the dated books that might be awesome or all the ones that just weren't able to get a good cover artist, but I can't help it. I think there's some merit to this as well, though. I mean, the book has to catch someone's attention from afar, right?
